                            LITURGY OF THE WORD

                                             AND

                          THE PROPER OF THE MASS

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON                                                                     Ps 87(86). 2

The LORD loves the city founded on holy mountains,

Loves the gates of Zion more than any dwelling in Jacob.

OPENING PRAYER

Almighty and merciful God,

You established miraculously for our protection

a perpetual help in the most Blessed Virgin Mary,

and gave us Her holy image of Czestochowa which is held

in veneration by the faithful, and renowned through miracles.

We ask You that strengthened by such a protection in

our battles of this life, we may attain complete victory

over our evil enemy at the hour of our death.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,

who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First reading (First option)                                                              Prov 8. 22-35

A reading from the book of Proverbs

„The LORD begot me, the first-born of his ways,

the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago;

From of old I was poured forth,

at the first, before the earth.

When there were no depths I was brought forth,

when there were no fountains or springs of water;

Before the mountains were settled into place,

before the hills, I was brought forth;

While as yet the earth and the fields were not made,

nor the first clods of the world.

„When He established the heavens I was there,

when He marked out the vault over the face of the deep;

When He made firm the skies above,

when He fixed fast the foundations of the earth;

When He set for the sea its limit,

so that the waters should not transgress His command;

Then was I beside Him as His craftsman,

and I was His delight day by day,

Playing before Him all the while,

playing on the surface of His earth;

and I found delight in the sons of men,

„So now, O children, listen to me;

instruction and wisdom do not reject!

Happy the man who obeys me,

and happy those who keep my ways,

Happy the man watching daily at my gates,

waiting at my doorposts;

For he who finds me finds life,

and wins favor from the LORD.”

This is the Word of the Lord.

FIRST READING (Second option)                                                                    Isa 2. 2-5

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah

The mountain of the LORD’s house

shall be established as the highest mountain

and raised above the hills.

All nations shall stream toward it;

many peoples shall come and say:

„Come, let us climb the LORD’s mountain,

to the house of the God of Jacob,

That He may instruct us in His ways,

And we may walk in His paths”

For from Zion shall go forth instruction,

and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

He shall judge between the nations,

and impose terms on many peoples.

They shall beat their swords into plowshares

and their spears into pruning hooks;

One nation shall not raise the swords against another,

nor shall they train for war again.

O house of Jacob, come,

let us walk in the light of the LORD!

This is the Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM         Ps 48 (47). 2-3ab, 9, 10-11, 13, 14c, 15a (R.: Jdt 15.9d)

R. You are the splendid boast of our people.

Great is the Lord and highly praised in the city of our God:

The holy mountain, fairest of heights, the joy of all the earth

R. You are the splendid boast of our people.

What we had heard we now see in the city of the LORD of hosts,

In the city of our God, founded to last forever.

R. You are the splendid boast of our people.

O God, within Your temple we ponder Your steadfast love.

Like Your name, O God, Your praise reaches the ends of the earth.

Your right hand is fully victorious.

R. You are the splendid boast of our people.

Go about Zion, walk all around it, note the number of its towers;

That you may tell future generations:

„Our God who leads us always!”

R. You are the splendid boast of our people.

SECOND READING                                                                                   Gal 4. 4-7

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Galatians.

When the fullness of time had come,

God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption.

As proof that you are children,

God sent the spirit of His Son into our hearts,

crying out, „Abba, Father!”

So you are no longer a slave but a child,

and if a child then also an heir, through God.

This is the Word of the Lord.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION                                                                                        Lk 1. 28

Alleluia Alleluia Alleluja

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.

Alleluia Alleluia Alleluja

GOSPEL                                                                                                      Jn 2. 1-11

+ A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint John.

There was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus

was there. Jesus and His disciples were also invited to the wedding.

When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to Him,

„They have no wine.” (And) Jesus said to her, „Woman,

how does your concern affect Me? My hour has not yet come.”

His mother said to the servers, „Do whatever He tells you:

Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washing,

each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them,

„Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim.

Then He told them, „Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”

So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water

that had become wine, without knowing where it came from

(although the servers who had drawn the water knew),

the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,

„Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people

have drunk feely, and inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.”

Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee

and so revealed His glory, and His disciples began to believe in Him.

This is the gospel of the Lord.
